Forget Camden Market or the bazaars of Marrakesh, Friargate Coventry is the newest name in street food. The latest lunchtime food and drink market is to be held in Station Square, at the heart of the Friargate development, on Thursday 26th May.
From 11.30am, residents and commuters can pick up incredible sweet and savoury dishes in the bustling, tree-lined setting of Station Square – which opened to the public in March.
An eclectic mix of vendors will include The Pork Society in their vintage caravan, All Terrain Caffeine, serving their specialist hot drinks from the back of a converted Land Rover Defender; Bare Bones Pizza, who cook dishes to order in less than a minute from a van with a wood fired oven and Street Chef, who serves gastronomic delights from his ‘Caterpod’ and has appeared on the BBC’s Great British Food Trip. FarGo Village’s American sweet shop Spangles will be serving their legendary deep fried Oreos amongst their many other delights.
Next week’s market is part of a programme of regular events which aim to support the growth of Friargate – the vibrant new business district of Coventry.
Stephen Reynolds, of Friargate Coventry LLP, said: “The launch of our Friargate street food market in March was really welcomed – people loved the varied foods on offer and the buzz it brought to the new Station Square boulevard.
“We are now making this fantastic event a regular fixture, benefitting the 17,000 people using the station each day, as well as drawing people from across the city.
“In time this will help transform Station Square and Friargate into a vibrant new district, as the development continues to gather pace.”
Winners of Friargate’s competition to win one of 15 pairs of tickets to MTV Crashes on Friday 27 May will also be presented with the prizes at the street food market. For more details on the competition see our Twitter timeline @Friargatecov, or visit www.friargatecoventry.co.uk
